Third Generation Horsewoman

...... hence the name Next Generation Equestrian. Well there is another reason but that is another story.

Horses definitely run through the blood on the Crone side of my family. From the great great great uncle in Ireland who started Colin Crone, my Irish grandfather’s love for horses that developed into teaching, training and competing during the late 50’s with members of the CET at venues such as The Royal, Madison Square Gardens, as well as locally at the Edmonton Horse Show in the early 70’s; Erika Crone, my German grandmother who also rode showjumpers and hunters in Canada as well as in Ireland at venues such as Balmoral Horse Show, Strokestown and the famed Dublin Horse Show before turning to dressage and being long listed for the Pan American Team For Winnipeg games; and to my mother, Kathleen Schirmaier, who competed and rode in Ireland also at Dublin Horse Show before coming back to Canada and then competing in jumpers up to the 1.20m level. My family continues to own and operate a successful boarding and lesson stable with many successes from students in the show ring.

I should mention that my great grandfather on the Schirmaier side also loved horses and am told he would often stop in his hometown in Germany to assess the confirmation of many a horse.

I’m told that I was placed on my grandmother’s dressage horse at 3 days old to get the “scent of horses” into my system....it was love from there. From leadline ponies, through jumper ponies, my first thoroughbred that started the love of OTTB’s. My present competition horse, also an OTTB, competing up to the 1.25m. Many training horses in between and my newest mount, a lovely sassy OTTB mare.

One of my favorite moments of competition was placing at the renowned Spruce Meadows Masters in the 1.20m division; however, my favorite times are the quiet rides outside the arena and training ring along trails and open fields.

Next Generation Equestrian was developed from a desire to work with these amazing animals daily and to coach and mentor others who wish to spend a few stolen moments a day with equus caballus - the modern horse.
